Soundstage: Warren Maxwell and Strike Percussion [Music]

Soundstage: Warren Maxwell and Strike Percussion

Strike Percussion joins forces with Warren Maxwell for a night of musical genius at Downstage Theatre on 17 October as part of the Soundstage series.

Strike Percussion and Warren Maxwell... it would be hard to find a more exciting collaboration.

They are working together to create a full length show due in 2011, but we've arranged a sneak peak in this intimate, one-off Sunday evening performance. Both acts are capable of selling out an entire season individually so book early to get a great seat.

Strike Percussion need no introduction, having performed at Downstage numerous times over the years. They are a high energy drumming group made up of New Zealand's most outstanding percussionists, specialising in movement-based, choreographed percussion.

Pacific, classical and contemporary musical influences, combined with a movement and theatre-based presentation, make STRIKE unique in the world of percussion music.

Warren Maxwell is the driving force behind many musical projects. He is the leader of psychedelic blues quartet Little Bushman. Born in 1970, Warren grew up in Whangarei and went on to study jazz at the Conservatorium of Music, Wellington, where he has also taught. He was a founding member of Trinity Roots, whose debut album True was released in 2002, and Home, Land and Sea in 2004.

"A highlight for the Fringe Festival and for Downstage. The air in the packed out theatre was sizzling with anticipation, and we were not disappointed." - Heather McDonald, Wotzon.com (Review of Strike Soundsystem in 2009)
